A Tax Day Call to Close Corporate Loopholes

I joined the Better Choices for Pennsylvania coalition today to mark Tax Day by calling on state policymakers to close corporate tax loopholes and make Pennsylvania's tax system fairer.

Harrisburg Tax DayWe greeted people outside the Harrisburg Post Office at lunch time and asked them to sign a petition to close tax loopholes. Many were very happy to do so.

One of the points I made in talking with people was that many hardworking Pennsylvanians today are paying more because state lawmakers have failed to close corporate tax loopholes.

Corporate tax loopholes cost the state $550 million a year. That lost revenue has resulted in deep cuts to schools and health care, lost opportunities for our kids and less help for our parents and grandparents — as well as higher local taxes and college tuition.

“There are alternatives to cutting schools, colleges and county services for seniors and people with disabilities,” said Peg Dierkers, co-chair of the Better Choices coalition. “Lawmakers should close loopholes and use the funds to make our families and communities stronger.”
